Shopify Headless Liquor Store
Australian Wine Deals is a small liquor store based in Fitzroy Village that focuses on year round wine specials. We worked closely with the client to build a custom and scalable solution that benefited both parties. The client got a fully custom interface that shares features with large competitors and an integrated admin console for managing their store.
Overview
Our client sought a website that offered a comprehensive range of features for their liquor store, emphasising bulk sales and easy navigation.
This has been an ongoing project, featuring a rich front-end and a complementary admin console that we developed to enable the client to efficiently update their store, manage inventory, and facilitate sales with ease.
The store is subject to monthly updates, introducing new features and brand enhancements, alongside our marketing efforts.
Operating on a commission-based model, the client incurs no upfront costs, with a commission fee structured around the product type. We have agreed on a 15% commission for wines and 5% for beers and spirits, alongside a 99c transaction fee. The entire user experience has been crafted to rival leading brands such as Dan Murphy's, Liquorland, and Vintage Cellars, bringing enterprise-level features to small and mid-sized enterprises.

Technical Innovation
For this project it was decided that the website would incorporate headless technology as we wanted to build custom features that would compete with large local brands in Australia. We built many features such as a custom high performance interface with graphical product filters specialised for searching for liquor, favorites, postage estimator, and many more features.
The headless architecture allows for unprecedented flexibility in the user interface while maintaining the robust e-commerce functionality that Shopify provides on the backend. This approach enables rapid feature development and customization that would be impossible with traditional e-commerce platforms.
Results
The custom headless solution has positioned Australian Wine Deals to compete directly with major liquor retailers, offering enterprise-level features typically reserved for much larger operations.
The commission-based model has proven successful, allowing the client to scale their business without upfront technology costs while ensuring our continued investment in platform improvements and feature development.
